Homeowners insurance covers you for both damage to your property and your liability or legal responsibility for any injuries and property damage you or members of your family cause to other people. Damage caused by most disasters is covered but there are exceptions. A Homeowners policy provides financial protection to your dwelling and your personal belongings.
Homeowners Insurance covers the following:
Unlike driving a car, you can legally own a home without Homeowners Insurance. However, if you finance your home with a mortgage, your lender will require you to have Homeowners Insurance to protect your home in case of damage caused by unforeseen circumstances. While it isn’t mandatory if your home is free and clear, we still recommend it due to the out-of-pocket expenses you may accrue from a loss.
There are different types of Homeowners Insurance that you can purchase. With Basic Homeowners Insurance, the carrier will cover up to the Dwelling Limit listed on the policy. Preferred Homeowners insurance will cover you above the Dwelling Limit on the policy to allow for an increase in rebuilding costs.
Contents Insurance (Personal Property) is insurance that pays for damage to, or loss of, an individual’s personal possessions while they are located within the individual’s home. Some Contents Insurance policies also provide restricted coverage for personal possessions temporarily taken away from the home by the policyholder.
